Banyoles Lake serves as an ideal training site as it is recognised as one of the best regatta courses in the world. It is host to various annual rowing competitions including the International Banyoles Regatta, which takes place in the first week of April, and the International Universities and the International Veterans Regattas, which take place in mid-July. The lake has also hosted such prestigious international events as the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, the World Rowing Championship in 2004 and the World Rowing Cup in 2009.

The lake is 2,150m long by 98m wide with an average depth of 15m. The regatta course has 6 lanes plus 2 outside lanes with buoys every 500m.
